Being Creative
Maybe because I don’t get emotional in art galleries or maybe because my 7th grade art teacher gave me my first C, I thought that I was uncreative. Recently I have had several experiences that expanded my definition of my own creativity. For example, a genuine artist came for dinner and complimented my charcuterie board. Of course I have seen beautiful charcuterie boards, but for some reason, I did not consider that art.
A client suggested I read Rick Ruben’s The Creative Act: A Way of Being. It’s a book of small essays and vignettes about art, the creative process and becoming an artist. It made me think about all the ways that creativity may define humanity. Artificial intelligence is not writing original poetry (yet?).
Go look for some ways to make art today—put together a bouquet, build something or rearrange your furniture in an aesthetically pleasing way. Notice how you feel afterwards.
